Meeting Mark LipinskiWe at Lizzie B have been Mark Lipinski fans since his magazine Quilter's Home first hit news stands and we picked it up just because it was NEW. Then when we took it home and actually read it COVER TO COVER and laughed our heads off, we were hooked! When we heard that Mark Lipinski was coming to Liz's local quilt shop to teach, she and her sister Christine (quilter/web designer) just HAD to sign up! Actually, we signed up before realizing WHAT exactly we were signing up for. We knew that we'd be in for a day of entertainment, but what we didn't know was that we'd signed up to MAKE A QUILT! It was a quilting class! Holy cow. Two weeks before spring market and Liz signed up for an all day QUILT class??? What was she thinking??? So off she went with Christine, to pick out fabrics to learn how to make a Simple Simon quilt with Mark Lipinski! So many people had signed up for the class in fact, there was a waiting list. Our LQS had to rent space in a hotel conference center to hold all 70 quilters that came to learn from Mark. And he did NOT disappoint! We had a great day of learning and laughing with this totally irreverent quilty-man. If you haven't taken his Simple Simon class and you hear he's coming your way, quick, sign up! You'll be amazed at what you can do with this simple quilt. Mark told us he has a book due out this fall with all the different ways to make a Simple Simon, so keep on the look out, this guy knows what he's talking about! We snapped a few photos to show what everyone was doing in the class. The ENTIRE day Mark kept referring to Liz - in a voice no less than booming - as Lizzie B Cre8ive. As in, "Hey Lizzie B Cre8ive how ARE you? Come tell me what you think about this quilt Lizzie B Cre8ive....etc." He must have said Lizzie B Cre8ive a hundred times or more throughout the class. When Liz pointed out that she did, in fact, have a name, he replied, "No! It's branding, baby, branding!" Pretty sure not a soul left that class without knowing just WHO Lizzie B Cre8ive was!!! THANKS MARK! (And he nicknamed Liz's sister as "Sister B Cre8ive"! Made her feel like a nun.....!) Be sure to check out the Lizzie B Cre8ive quilt in the July/Aug issue of Quilters Home Magazine! Spring MarketWhew! We're back from Spring Market and what a whirlwind week it was! We all decided we loved the city of Portland. It was fairly easy to navigate through (thanks to Jack our trusty navigator!) and had many fabulous restaurants that offered the most organic fresh food we have ever seen or tasted! The Lizzie B team, consisting of Beth and her family: Mama C (mom), Kate (sister); and Liz and HER family, Christine (sister), John (brother), all arrived Tuesday morning. We wanted to give ourselves an extra day to scrounge the area for booth props. We found this fantastic place filled with old doors, windows, window frames etc. and got to work looking for what we needed. We were going for a French Country look and had some specific props in mind which we were VERY happy to find in Portland, Or! The next morning we made a few other necessary stops....IKEA, Home Goods....even a trip to the Salvation Army! You just never know where you're going to find the perfect prop. At noon we were ready to hit the convention center and start constructing our booth. From a sketch Liz had done back in March....the next Lizzie B booth was born! What's New?“A woman in her lifetime will spend far more hours hugging a handbag than a man.” Eliza Rachlin Liz has this GREAT store near her called “5 Below” where she can find odd little treasures for 5 bucks and under. Her best find yet was a 2008 HANDBAG calendar that has photos of eclectic handbags for EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR! Can you ask for anything better?! And if you know Liz and Beth, they both LOVE a great handbag (or two or three)! Before Liz began designing quilts, she had her own business crafting bags and selling them at shows in her area. She loved the challenge of coming up with the next great style and crafting functional bags that looked anything but “homemade”. In fact, when Liz and Beth decided to go into the quilt pattern biz together, they knew that handbags had to remain a big part of that. Now all you lucky quilters out there get to benefit from Liz’s years in the handbag market. And if you like our Lizzie B bags already, just wait ‘til you see what we’ve got in store for Spring! We just know you’re going to love it! Move over Vera Bradley, there are some new girls in town..! Meanwhile, Liz will keep a look out for the “chocolate for every day of the year” calendar, which she knows MUST exist and is sure to come with a huge box of 365 gorgeous truffles. |
